651 Intermediate Cal
Industry Standard for High Performance Calendered Film!
Oracal 651 is an outstanding intermediate calendered film for medium-term outdoor applications. Special proprietary formulation ensures optimized stability and resistance to UV degradation. The unique face film is 2.5 mil thick which splits the difference between 2 mil cast vinyls and most 3 mil calendered films. It is thinner, more conformable, and will last longer with better resistance against shrinkage, cracking, or peeling than any other calendered vinyl.
Thanks to Oracal 651's dense face film, the vinyl clings more tightly to the release liner and it makes weeding job exceptionally easier and faster. Solvent-based adhesive of Oracal 651 are designed for more demanding and longer term application. You can apply Oracal 651 on most substrates dry without application fluid and lightly re-position it until it's just right. Then apply pressure to activate the adhesive and finish the installation. Oracal 651 also can be installed by wet application without worry of the adhesive losing bond to the substrate.

Tech Tip: Always Perform a Test-Cut First! |
The most important factor in plotting vinyl is ensuring the use of correct plotter settings based on the choosen type of material. Denser films, such as reflectives require a 60º blade, slower cutting speed and incresed cut pressure. When cutting softer, more flexible cast or calendered films, a 30º blade, increased cutting speed (in comparison to denser films) and decreased cut pressure is warranted. Performing a plot test with every roll of vinyl that is loaded into your plotter is always recommended. |
Products with a water-based adhesive, such as ORACAL 631, typically are a low-cost solution for either indoor or short-term outdoor graphic applications. This type of adhesive is found in a wide range of versatile projects like decorative wall graphics, indoor wall murals and way finding signage. Avoid wet applications when applying water-based adhesive products as this will interfere with the bonding process to the substrate.
Solvent-based adhesive products, like ORACAL 651 are designed for more demanding and longer term applications. The components of this adhesive are combined using solvents, thus allowing a structurally stronger adhesive that is more resistant to chemicals, cleaning agents and wider temperature ranges. Another important attribute is the ability to wet apply graphics without worry of the adhesive losing bond to the substrate. |
